Quartet for Saxophones  (2019)
My Quartet for Saxophones was written for members of the CCM Saxophone Studio. I wanted to give the quartet three short contrasting movements that encapsulate three prominent traits of my compositional personality. The first movement, Funkadelic, is an homage to my love of funk music, a style which is inseparable from saxophones! This movement is laden with intricate rhythmic grooves, obstinati, and flourishes. The second is a Theme and Variations. In this movement, I explore the beautiful lyricism that saxophones execute so eloquently with each variation being dedicated to a specific attribute of the saxophone’s musical abilities. Finally, we have the third movement, Choatix, a high energy finale that has rhythms reminiscent of Hip-Hop and Hard Rock.
