The poetry of Robert Burns is emotional, engaging, and enthralls the reader through its descriptive beauty. In my own journey of exploring art, music, and culture, I've often been drawn to works that display the romantic, as this genre is synonymous with attributes of my own writing. In A Red, Red Rose, Burns' dramatic writing style does much to capture the magnitude of affection the subject has for their significant other. This, of course, has inspired the emotional depth of my setting of this beautiful text, and all of its musical platitudes.
