Welcome.
If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re an artist, a composer, a listener, a thinker—or someone curious enough to peek behind the curtain of how a creative life actually unfolds. This blog exists for you.
Composing Life is exactly what it sounds like: a space where music, process, belief, missteps, humor, patience, ambition, and reality all live side by side. I wanted a place where I could speak freely about the life around the music—not just finished scores, premieres, and polished bios, but the thought processes, doubts, discoveries, and quiet breakthroughs that shape the work long before it reaches the page or the stage.
I’ve always believed that artistry doesn’t live in isolation. And yet, many composers—understandably—keep their process private. Sometimes it’s fear of judgment. Sometimes it’s protection. Sometimes it’s the idea that the “mystery” is part of the craft. I get that.
But for me, sharing is part of the work.
This blog is my way of practicing transparency—of opening the door a little wider for those who are looking for honesty, encouragement, laughter, clarity, or simply the reminder that they’re not alone in trying to build a meaningful creative life.
Here’s how this space is organized:
A Composer’s Path
A behind-the-scenes look at the craft of composing. Here we explore compositional mechanics—the hands-on process, technical lessons, workflow decisions, and practical strategies that shape the music.
The Why
This is the heart of it all. The philosophy. The questions beneath the notes. Why we create. Why belief matters. Why intention, story, and identity shape the music we write—and the lives we live. These posts tend to sit a little deeper, asking questions that don’t always have clean answers but are worth asking anyway.
Other Shenanigans
Because life isn’t only heavy reflection. This space is for the unexpected: side projects, humor, experiments, nerdy obsessions, creative detours, and the moments that don’t fit neatly anywhere else—but still matter. Think of this section as curiosity with the volume turned up.
I’ll be updating this blog from time to time—as inspiration strikes and life allows. Some posts will be thoughtful, some spontaneous, some polished, some rough around the edges. All of them will be honest.
If you’re looking for inspiration, truth, encouragement, or just a voice reminding you that the creative journey is rarely linear (and never tidy), I hope you’ll stick around. Check back often. Read what resonates. Leave what doesn’t.
Thanks for being here.
Let’s compose life—together.
