Movement I: Rhapsody

A dramatic movement highlighting the Hammond organ through a contemporary sound world

of Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Rock.

Movement II: Invocation

The heart and soul of the work using a chorus and solo vocal quartet singing contrasting texts from the Songs of the Underground Railroad & the Bible. This searing orchestral essay draws parallels between the pain and suffering seen in past American eras such as colonization and slavery with recent tragedies that seem to oppress all Americans today: a threnody, paying homage to all American lives that have recently been taken by racism, hatred, bigotry, and senseless violence.

Movement III: Finale

A sweeping finale that features gospel shedding and newly written text to point to how far we have

come and the dream for a future of peace.
