Synergy was written for the Friends in Low Places quartet for summer premieres at the 2024 International Double Reed Society conference and the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest in Dublin, Ireland.

The work is a showpiece exploring the timbral colors and rhythmic versatility of the unique instrumentation of 2 Bass Clarinets and 2 Bassoons.
This instrumentation of bass clarinet quartet is an exciting edition spearheaded by a consortium for the Friends in Low Places quartet to make the work available for 3 low reed instrument combinations: 2 Bass Clarinets/2 Bassoons, Bass Clarinet Quartet & Bassoon Quartet.

The word 'synergy' can be described as different agents working together to produce a result greater than achieved separately. The theme of this work is togetherness, with the work's groovy nature and deep lyricism working to achieve a very unique sonic experience.
