Birmingham Concerto No. 1 was commissioned by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Carlos Izcaray, Music Director, and by members of The Mr. and Mrs. William J. Rushton, IV Sound Investment Series. It was commissioned as an ongoing series of works that will function as companion pieces to five of J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti.

Birmingham Concerto No. 1 (a companion to Brandenburg Concerto No. 5) is a part of ASO’s multi-year exploration of the Brandenburg Concerti.
